Summary
This senior position works as an individual contributor or as part of a team to implement uControl’s Security and Home Automation solutions. This position is responsible for providing hands-on technical consultation, systems implementation, and customer support.

This individual must not only be able to implement complex systems but also work with customers on defining requirements and be able to create complete requirements documents. Solutions Engineers must be able to estimate effort, scope projects tasks, and must be comfortable delivering to established timelines.

This position may perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Key member of the project delivery team
• Create requirements based on engaging with customer on their business problems and needs
• Map business problems to technical requirements
• Develop and deliver technical specifications, requirements documents, release notes, and other technical documentation
• Install and configure uControl server
• Perform uControl firmware configuration
• Configure and customize systems integrations
• Unit test and deliver functional units to specification and at a high quality
• Troubleshoot and fix bugs both pre- and post- production
• Partner with client groups in a team setting, taking ownership of the objectives to achieve business results
• Work without constant direction and thrive in ambiguous situations

Qualifications

• Engineering background with 5 years or more commercial experience in C, C++, Java or another structured programming language
• 7+ years experience in a customer-facing role solving business problems and implementing technology
• Strong understanding and hands-on experience with networking and enterprise systems architecture
• Expert technical knowledge of the following areas:
  • Home Security and Automation products
  • Wired WAN access networks – xDSL, FTTx, PON, DOCSIS, dial-up, ATM, Ethernet
  • Wireless WAN – GRPS, EDGE, 3G, WiMAX, LTE
  • LAN – 10/100/1000 Base-T, 80211b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DECT, Femto Cell
  • OS – Windows, Mac, Mobile OS (iPhone, Symbian, Windows Mobile)
  • Other – Broadband Forum TR-069, TR-098, TR-104, TR-106, TR-111, TR-135, PD-128, WT-187, VoIP, QoS, IPv6, DHCP, DNS, DDNS, UPnP, HNAP, NAPT, DMZ, firewall, CE-HTML, ZigBee
  • Home products and services – gaming consoles, network connected media devices and televisions, network attached printers, home backup, home security, home automation, home healthcare
• Experience with service provider operations including OSS/BSS, service provisioning, service assurance/customer care, field services, monitoring, reporting, and network architecture (core, last mile, in-home, etc.)
• Strong troubleshooting skills. Demonstrable experience in troubleshooting issues in complex distributed systems using common tools
• Commercial experience building web applications for relational databases with WebLogic and Oracle RAC
• Experience in supporting high-availability Oracle solutions
• Requires excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
• Uses acquired professional knowledge to determine method for issue resolution

Education
Bachelor/Masters of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
